It has been a busy week at Garden Place in Red Bud beginning with Owen Masterson showing slides of one of his trips to Africa.

"St. John's Kids", 2nd graders from St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, livened up the residents while helping them work on crafts.

Then there was an evening of inspirational music provided by the choir of the 1st Baptist Church, Chester, IL. Many of the residents joined in the singing of familiar hymns and closed with refreshments and fellowship.

The Rabe family made one of their monthly visits and entertained us with their humor and musical talent.

News from Garden Place, Red Bud

Spring is here and yes, the RED BUD TREES are in full bloom! Last Thursday we had a "Tour of THE HILL" - the well known Italian community in St. Louis MO. We met our step-on guide Joseph R. DeGregorio at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wilson Street about 10lam. Joe took us inside the church and gave a historical talk on the history of the faith of the community and how they preserved through the years from the first immigrants. who worked the clay mines of that area and their struggles to rebuid the original church after a fire. After that we visited a gift shop across the street, then back on the van for a guided thour of some of The Hill area and viewed some of he historical homes.

Next was a stop at the famous Mama Campisi's Restaurant for lunch. After Joe introduced us to the owner, Lance W. Ervin, Sr. and his staff we settled down to a delicious lunch of 'Spidini" - complete with appetizers nd of course a sample of their famous toasted ravioli.

After lunch we walked a block down the hill to Missouri Baking Co. to drool over all the goodies -of course we bought some too. Then it was back on the van with Joe taking us around to view some homes of the famous sports people like Joe Garagiola, Sr., Yogi Berra and sports announcer Jack Buck.

Millstadt's Events

We are looking forward to a Spring Fling Celebration on March 31st. We're planning to play games, test our trivia knowledge and socialize over refreshments.

On March 27th, Patricia Turner comes to entertain.

Irene Mineer's birthday is on April 2nd. Wanda Baugh's birthday is on April 30th.

As part of our Easter Celebration, we are looking forward to participating in Millstadt's "Cross Walk''. Area churches depict Jesus' trial and persecution of Good Friday.

Easter Raffle Sale

Garden Place of Columbia is raffling off an easter basket filled with easter goodies to residents and their families. 100 percent of profits from the raffle will go towards residents' special events.

We at Garden Place hope you are having a wonderful holiday season. We have been very busy baking, touring lights and listening to carolers. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving potluck feast and have enjoyed visits from various school and church groups and even Santa! Yet to come in the new year will be a visit from Elvis (Steve Davis) and some exotic dancers. Watch for dates and join us!! We love to have company.
