The residents of Garden Place, Red Bud (aka Blossom City) are busy this week. For lunch Wednesday they climbed into the van and headed for the 17th Street Bar and Grill in Sparta for a delicious meal. Following that, we enjoyed an entertaining evening of music and songs by Judy Hinkle - Karaoke. While still in the traveling mode on Thursday, a van load went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. Before the featured "Tram Ride" we had lunch at the Sassafras Restaurant, on the ground level and enjoyed a variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. At this time of the year the gardens are rich in colors.
This coming week after enjoying Mr. Lynn Wellman "The Piano Man", Tuesday evening, we'll be taking it easy so we will have more energy to celebrate Labor Day with a B-B-Q party provided by our very own chefs -Julie and Ashley.

BLOSSOM CITY BLOG
Last week we celebrated five birthdays with our piano entertainer, Bob Tyler. Happy Birthday to Erlean Mahan, Micki Wagner, Doris Cobb, Eva Featherston and Veronica Kaiser! Their large birthday cake was shared and enjoyed by all at dinner.
A HAWAIIAN LUAU on Saturday afternoon and evening put on by the staff of Garden Place, Red Bud, IL was enjoyed by nearly 100 guests and residents. This year it was special in that it's the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's Statehood! The party was filled with fun and games for all along with good Hawaiian food, drinks and decorations. Our manager, Marilyn Raban, brought a "TIKI MAN" that she hand painted -but he did not have a name! A contest was started to find a suitable name -and the winner was Eyvonne Zipfel, who called him "Ashman". The next time you're here you'll find him at the Salad Bar guarding the Soup Kettle.
This weeks highlights begin on Wednesday evening with Judy Hinkle -Karaoke, followed on Thursday with our St. Louis tour to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.

There's something fishy going on around here! The next time you are in Garden Place, Red Bud, be sure to check out he aquarium -it's been upgraded and restocked with exotic fish and snails. This appears to be one of our well kept secrets. Ask one of our residents if they have seen the fish and they will, no doubt, reply with "what fish?". I'll give you a hint, you'll find it just off the lobby down the first hallway to the left.
"There's a song in the air"! Last week the choral group from the 1st Baptist Church, Chester, IL graced us with their fine singing and fellowship.

Has anyone noticed all the beautiful flower beds in the courtyards plus the larger flowering bushes in front of the building?
That's Garden Place, Red Bud, IL! We have had many activities going on last week, such as the Resident's Council Meeting, followed by the Activity Meeting. These are always well attended by interested persons with good ideas to improve our residency. Then on Tuesday evening we gathered around the tables for a Popcorn & Coke party. Michael Tackett entertained Wednesday evening with guitar and songs. One of his talents is composing a song as he plays -just give him a word and he'll create a song for it. Our popular afternoon "Scattergories" game was well attended with 15 people. We cannot forget the ever popular Bingo and Rummy games that just seem to pop up when a group get together. We wound up the week with a Wine and Cheese party.
Sunday's afternoon church service will be presented by the Elders and Deacons of Concord Presbyterian Church, PCA of Waterloo, IL with Mrs. Mary Mueller at the piano for the hymn singing. On Tuesday evening the First Baptist Choir of Chester will again enertain our people with their fine singing. Our "Crafty" people will be busy this week making Sunflower Baskets -such talent.
Everyone is anxiously waiting for the return of Joe Powell, aka The Whistler, who keeps his audiences attention with music, song, whistling, yoedling and poems.

Garden Place, Red Bud was quite busy last week starting out Sunday with Devotional Music by Doris Cobb, Monday morning it was "Sing Along with Dorothy" and in the afternoon a program called "That Was then.." On Tuesday Don Stevenson entertained with music and songs. A group went out to eat lunch Wednesday at Eckerts in Belleville and came back with rave reviews about the delicious pies. Thursday was the big outing for the week with 10 of us traveling to St.Mary's, Missouri to shop at the Antique Mall. A delicious buffet lunch was waiting for us at the Ponderosa Restaurant in Perryville, MO. On the way back to Red Bud we toured the Randolph County Court House in Chester. Maintenance Supervisor, Roger Grefe, took us up to the 5th floor lookout tower, which was one of the highlights of this tour, where we had a commanding view of the great Mississipi River Bottoms. We arrived back at Red Bud just in time for supper. Our residents finished out the week with a Bingo on Friday afternoon and a Cheese & Dip party in the evening, and of course on Saturday afternoon they made Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. Hmm it tastes sooo good!

Need Mobility? -(This is a correction to last week's article) Since though no fault of our own, the July 14th ad was omitted from the local newspaper. A reworded copy of last week's article is going to them tomorrow. Also because of this, the Mobility Fair has been moved from Monday July 20 to Monday July 27.
The Terry Roberson show last week was a success and we highly recommend him.
If the "Booking Board" is any indication, Mary Wittenbrink picked a winner for this week's "Van Ride Day" on Thursday July 23rd, to the St. Mary's Antique Mall in St. Mary's Missouri. As of this writing we have 7 signed up with more to come, I'm sure as they won't want to miss out on a delicious lunch at the nearby Ponderosa Steak House.
Bob Tyler drew a good crowd for his monthly appearance last Wednesday with special rendition of two favorite songs for our birthday celebrants, Frances Schroeder and Ethel Fadler.
