The June issue of the Millstadt Messenger (formerly known as Only Millstadt News) features a front page article on Vernon Linnemann, a tribute to the late husband of Garden Place of Millstadt resident Melba Linneman. The article remembers Vernon's contributions to his country and to the area. In particular, Vernon was the founder of the annual Display of Independence event in Millstadt. He commenced the annual festivityin 1976 with $2,000 of his own money. This year's event will be dedicated in his memory.
