Stay Active! Reduced Muscle Strength Increases Alzheimer's Risk

Study after study shows the benefits of exercise and strength training as you mature. In the November issue of Archives of Neurology, muscle strength was linked with increased risks of Alzheimer's or dementia. The weaker your muscles the more likely for cognitive decline. Read an article on the topic.

If you are finding it difficult to incorporate exercise into your daily regiment as you age, contact Garden Place about it's Adult Day Club service. The focus of this non-resident program is to keep seniors socially engaged, physically active and mentally sharp.

VA Benefits For Assisted Living

In the November 2009 issue of the Southern Business Journal, elder-care attorney Richard Habiger looks at VA benefits, noting that 33 percent of America's senior population might qualify for VA funds. Benefits are "available to veterans who served on active duty during a period of war ... [and] to the single surviving spouses of war-time veterans.

While difficult to receive VA funds, an experienced elder-care attorney should be able to help you navigate the system. The benefits can be used to help fund:
- Assisted living
- At-home elder-care services
- Salary for adult children or relatives, home-care companies or domestic workers that help care for a senior residing at home, but only in the right circumstances.

If you get a chance, review the Health Care column in this month's Southern Business Journal to learn more. Or contact a Garden Place community manager who will be able to provide some advice and assistance on the topic of VA Benefits.

Hey, it was chilly in Red Bud this morning, even a thin coat of ice on the car! We might as well get ready for winter, and that's just what's happening at Garden Place, Red Bud with the gathering of straw bales and pumpkins. Marilyn Raban, manager, did a great job of decorating the front lawn. In addition, some of the ladies hand decorated small pumpkins for table center pieces in the dining room.

If you stepped inside the lobby on Thursday afternoon you would have found a large group of residents and neighbors gathered around waiting for their flu shots administered by the Visiting Nurses Association. Pictured here with Nurse Jeanne Horner is Marie Wagner and Ethel Fadler getting their paperwork in order before getting their shots. We're ready for whatever winter brings.

Alzheimer's On the Rise

A new study on Alzheimer's Disease in the World Alzheimer's Report shows the growth of the disease was underestimated by 10 percent. According to the new report, dementia-related illness will double every 20 years growing from 35 million currently to 115.4 million in 2050.

If you are living with someone with Alzheimer's Disease or a dementia-related illness, be sure to check out Tori Salladay's Senior Moment column this month on page 11 in the Millstadt Messenger. In the article, she talks about what caregivers can expect as the disease progresses.

Here's a link to the September issue in which Tori spoke about the legal issues of Estate Planning for seniors on page 12 - also a very important topic to cover when dealing with dementia illnesses. Dementia patients must sign off on all the legal documents while still in a stable state of mind.

There was a lot of entertainment at Garden Place, Red Bud this past week starting off with Charlie and The Girls on Monday night. Then following this, on Tuesday we were inspired by one of our regulars -the First Baptist Church Choir of Chester, IL. Also at the same time the "Senior Estate Planning Discussion" meeting in the basement activity room was filled with the "panel" and guests.

On Saturday afternoon Mike Cassidy of Glen Carbon, IL (pictured upper right) presented the weekend program with guitar and country western music. Then in the evening our residents who desired, were invited to a private birthday party (pictured to the right) in the basement activity room hosted by the children of our own Lavern Karsten, complete with music by Bob Tyler.

Believe it or not this is already the last issue for September! Where did the month go? While looking over the activity calendar I see where the residents of Garden Place, Red Bud have been busy. Every Wednesday and Thursday is our turn to share the 12 passenger van with the other two facilities. Our residents enjoy special outings, luncheon out, van ride's as well as transportation to the YMCA at Columbia.

A real treat this past week was the first appearance by Matt Barber, a recording artist who grew up in Peoria, IL and does his recordings in Nashville,TN. Matt travels around the country entertaining audiences with his rendition of songs from the "Thirties and Forties" -our type of music. Matt is pictured above, as well as Wallace and Betty Limestall, to the lower right, who really enjoyed his music.

The residents of Garden Place, Red Bud were treated to two outstanding events this week beginning Tuesday afternoon with the appearance of "The St. John's Kids". This is a group of 2nd and 5th graders from St. John The Baptist Catholic School, this is a function of the school's Service Outreach Program. For their first visit we spent an hour just getting to know each other which proved very interesting and it paved the way for their subsequent monthly visits the rest of this school year. Pictured is Mrs. Leslie Grohmann with some of the students.

The other activity on Wednesday afternoon involved Bob Tyler with piano and songs that everyone enjoys. This month Bob helped us celebrate the birthdays of Rebecka Stock, Verna Trost and Eula Cavanaugh. Meanwhile we had a group of ladies who took to the dance floor for a few dances, winding up with some "Line Dancing" as the picture shows.

Where did the Summer go? September is here! It's time to get out into the beautiful countryside and look up a fine vineyard to do some "Wine Sampling". Which is what a group from Garden Place, Red Bud, IL did on Thursday. We went by way of the Modoc Ferry to St. Genevieve, MO and then on to the CROWN VALLEY WINERY at Coffman, MO where we were hosted to a "Wine Tasting" and a tour of the ultra modern facility from the freshly picked grapes to the delicious tasting glass of fine wine.

Pictured at upper right are Arthur Trost and Rich Noelken in The Cask Room and below, Art Trost, Laverne Karsten and Margaret Fadler at the "Tasting Bar".

Before returning on the ferryboat we had lunch at "The Anvil Bar and Restaurant" in the historic town of St. Genevieve.

The residents of Garden Place, Red Bud (aka Blossom City) are busy this week. For lunch Wednesday they climbed into the van and headed for the 17th Street Bar and Grill in Sparta for a delicious meal. Following that, we enjoyed an entertaining evening of music and songs by Judy Hinkle - Karaoke. While still in the traveling mode on Thursday, a van load went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. Before the featured "Tram Ride" we had lunch at the Sassafras Restaurant, on the ground level and enjoyed a variety of sandwiches, soups and salads. At this time of the year the gardens are rich in colors.

This coming week after enjoying Mr. Lynn Wellman "The Piano Man", Tuesday evening, we'll be taking it easy so we will have more energy to celebrate Labor Day with a B-B-Q party provided by our very own chefs -Julie and Ashley.

Last week we celebrated five birthdays with our piano entertainer, Bob Tyler. Happy Birthday to Erlean Mahan, Micki Wagner, Doris Cobb, Eva Featherston and Veronica Kaiser! Their large birthday cake was shared and enjoyed by all at dinner.

A HAWAIIAN LUAU on Saturday afternoon and evening put on by the staff of Garden Place, Red Bud, IL was enjoyed by nearly 100 guests and residents. This year it was special in that it's the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's Statehood! The party was filled with fun and games for all along with good Hawaiian food, drinks and decorations. Our manager, Marilyn Raban, brought a "TIKI MAN" that she hand painted -but he did not have a name! A contest was started to find a suitable name -and the winner was Eyvonne Zipfel, who called him "Ashman". The next time you're here you'll find him at the Salad Bar guarding the Soup Kettle.

This weeks highlights begin on Wednesday evening with Judy Hinkle -Karaoke, followed on Thursday with our St. Louis tour to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.

There's something fishy going on around here! The next time you are in Garden Place, Red Bud, be sure to check out he aquarium -it's been upgraded and restocked with exotic fish and snails. This appears to be one of our well kept secrets. Ask one of our residents if they have seen the fish and they will, no doubt, reply with "what fish?". I'll give you a hint, you'll find it just off the lobby down the first hallway to the left.

"There's a song in the air"! Last week the choral group from the 1st Baptist Church, Chester, IL graced us with their fine singing and fellowship.

Has anyone noticed all the beautiful flower beds in the courtyards plus the larger flowering bushes in front of the building?

That's Garden Place, Red Bud, IL! We have had many activities going on last week, such as the Resident's Council Meeting, followed by the Activity Meeting. These are always well attended by interested persons with good ideas to improve our residency. Then on Tuesday evening we gathered around the tables for a Popcorn & Coke party. Michael Tackett entertained Wednesday evening with guitar and songs. One of his talents is composing a song as he plays -just give him a word and he'll create a song for it. Our popular afternoon "Scattergories" game was well attended with 15 people. We cannot forget the ever popular Bingo and Rummy games that just seem to pop up when a group get together. We wound up the week with a Wine and Cheese party.

Sunday's afternoon church service will be presented by the Elders and Deacons of Concord Presbyterian Church, PCA of Waterloo, IL with Mrs. Mary Mueller at the piano for the hymn singing. On Tuesday evening the First Baptist Choir of Chester will again enertain our people with their fine singing. Our "Crafty" people will be busy this week making Sunflower Baskets -such talent.

Everyone is anxiously waiting for the return of Joe Powell, aka The Whistler, who keeps his audiences attention with music, song, whistling, yoedling and poems.

Garden Place, Red Bud was quite busy last week starting out Sunday with Devotional Music by Doris Cobb, Monday morning it was "Sing Along with Dorothy" and in the afternoon a program called "That Was then.." On Tuesday Don Stevenson entertained with music and songs. A group went out to eat lunch Wednesday at Eckerts in Belleville and came back with rave reviews about the delicious pies. Thursday was the big outing for the week with 10 of us traveling to St.Mary's, Missouri to shop at the Antique Mall. A delicious buffet lunch was waiting for us at the Ponderosa Restaurant in Perryville, MO. On the way back to Red Bud we toured the Randolph County Court House in Chester. Maintenance Supervisor, Roger Grefe, took us up to the 5th floor lookout tower, which was one of the highlights of this tour, where we had a commanding view of the great Mississipi River Bottoms. We arrived back at Red Bud just in time for supper. Our residents finished out the week with a Bingo on Friday afternoon and a Cheese & Dip party in the evening, and of course on Saturday afternoon they made Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. Hmm it tastes sooo good!

Need Mobility? -(This is a correction to last week's article) Since though no fault of our own, the July 14th ad was omitted from the local newspaper. A reworded copy of last week's article is going to them tomorrow. Also because of this, the Mobility Fair has been moved from Monday July 20 to Monday July 27.

The Terry Roberson show last week was a success and we highly recommend him.

If the "Booking Board" is any indication, Mary Wittenbrink picked a winner for this week's "Van Ride Day" on Thursday July 23rd, to the St. Mary's Antique Mall in St. Mary's Missouri. As of this writing we have 7 signed up with more to come, I'm sure as they won't want to miss out on a delicious lunch at the nearby Ponderosa Steak House.

Bob Tyler drew a good crowd for his monthly appearance last Wednesday with special rendition of two favorite songs for our birthday celebrants, Frances Schroeder and Ethel Fadler.

Check this site again for outstanding entertainment and trips that are coming up.

The Senior Moment - As Seen in The Millstadt Messenger

Be sure to read the July 2009 issue of The Millstadt Messenger in which you will find the new column by our Millstadt Community Manager Tori Salladay. This month she wrote about the benefits of Adult Day Club. Here is the July column:

The Senior Moment
as seen in The Millstadt Messenger
by Tori Salladay
Garden Place Senior Living of Millstadt

The aging process is certainly not for sissies. Along with the health concerns and physical limitations that come with age, many seniors suffer from boredom or loneliness. One solution to such problems is to enroll older adults in an Adult Day Club.

The emerging phenomenon of adult-day services is an innovative approach to alleviating some of the mental and social strains that age brings. Since the mid-1970s, adult day centers are increasingly accessible with more than 3,400 nationwide.

Adult day services specialize in providing structured, social programs allowing elderly individuals and their caregivers the opportunity to enjoy a safe and nurturing environment during the day while returning to a loving home at night. Typically, adult day clubs are non-residential programs providing care and services for the elderly and disabled. More than 50 percent of all adult day center recipients nationwide have some cognitive impairment.

Most centers operate between four and 12 hours per day and often provide meals, transportation, social and recreational activities, outings and general supervision. On average, participants are 72 years old, with two-thirds being women.

In general, adult day centers operate under a social activities model, which focuses on increased interaction with peers through planned activities appropriate to participants’ health needs. However, some adult day services follow a medical model that includes nursing intervention and care-and-carry, an additional medical license.

Adult day services benefit participants and their caregivers by delaying admission into a skilled nursing facility and allowing participants to remain at home longer. For individuals who would otherwise stay at home alone during the day, the structure of social stimulation and recreational activities often improve, maintain or delay the decline of physical or cognitive functioning. For caregivers, adult day centers provide respite care enabling caregivers’ time to work or take a break from their care-giving responsibilities.

In general, 35 percent of the adult-day recipients live with an adult child, 20 percent with a spouse, 18 percent in an institutional setting, 13 percent with parents or other relatives and 11 percent live alone.

The average cost per day ranges from $55 to $75 per day. For financial assistance, check with your individual health insurance provider. Medicare does not cover adult day center costs, though if a senior qualifies financially, Medicaid will cover some or all costs for a licensed, medical-model program or an Alzheimer’s environment.

Some adult day programs offer need-based scholarships while others use sliding-fee scales based on income. Private medical insurance policies sometimes cover a portion of costs if the program includes registered, licensed medical personnel. Depending upon the policy, some long-term-care insurance might assist with payment. Also, dependent-care tax credits may be available for caregivers.

When looking for an adult day facility, seek a community that promotes independence and social stimulation, supports and supervises mature adults with dignity, encourages improved self-esteem and offers structured routines engaging in day-to-day events and activities designed specifically for seniors. E-mail Tori with questions about adult day care programs or with feedback.

Need Mobility? We believe we may be able to help those of you who need assistance with mobility with power chairs and scooters. In order to assist you in your journey of decision making at this time in your life, Garden Place, Red Bud, IL is providing a "Mobility Product Fair" Monday July 20th at 7:00 PM. This is a fun and informative activity that includes door prizes with refreshments and a good time, open to the public and current residents.

This past week we were entertained by the RSVP Singers, of which our own resident Doris Cobb, a retired member, joined in with her fine voice. We were very fortunate to have Terry Roberson perform on Friday night. Singer, song-writer and cowboy poet, Terry has been taking the Midwestern stages for the past twenty six years, performing country as well as western music (songs of the American cowboy) and his own original brand of cowboy poetry. Terry and his beautiful wife, and business manager, Pam have performed and traveled the Midwest from Oklahoma City to Nashville (Grand Ole Opry) to the St. Louis area where they now live on their small horse ranch. We're looking forward to his return.

This week Bob Tyler and his electronic piano will be here on Wednesday afternoon to entertain and help Frances Schroeder and Ethel Fadler celebrate their birthdays. As usual the public is always welcome at these functions.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Delores Braun upon the death of her daughter Joyce Zeiger this past week.

Independence Day, also knows as the 4th of July, is past. In spite of the persistent rains which washed out many planned celebrations, we at Garden Place had a fun day. It started with a traditional barbecue lunch consisting of burgers, potato salad and baked beans and ended with evening entertainment by "The Piano Man". Following the music we enjoyed refreshments-"kettle corn", watermelon and even snow cones! Everybody had a good time eating and socializing.

This was the 233rd birthday of our nation and it is important to pause and consider the risks and sacrifices of our founding fathers so that we can live in a free nation. As a WW-II veteran I would like to honor the service of our brave men and women of our armed forces who are still in harms way to make sure our country remains a free nation. We salute you!

We always look forward to hearing the RSVP Singers who will perform Tuesday at 2pm. We are proud to announce the booking of a famous Nashville personality, TERRY ROBERSON on Friday night at 7pm. Terry has been associated with famous performers like Marty Haggard, Johnny Paycheck and presents a program of country/western and his own brand of cowboy poetry. As always the public is invited -free!

Dog Days of Summer

Life is in full bloom at Garden Place in Millstadt, Illinois. Just ask anyone who lives here about the friendships forged, the secure feeling of home and the feeling of belonging to a very large family. Many of our residents have stated on many occasions just how happy they are they made the choice to live here. Of course, anyone who is a part of the Garden Place family seems a bit biased to their opinion on that subject.
We're full of celebration here and despite the rainy weather that accompanied the July 4th holiday, we still managed to enjoy good friends and family, good food and good times. A special thanks to the employees and volunteers who worked so hard to deliver a wonderful spread for both families and residents as we entertained over 50 guests for the Independence Day BBQ. We enjoyed being your hosts and hope you enjoyed being our guests for this special day.

Speaking of special, this month will be packed full of wonderful entertainment, fantastic outings, vigorous activities and lots and lots of socialization. We never enjoying life here; there's always something fun going on! for instance, this month we will welcome Dave Sheppard, Bill Montgomery and Joe Powell to mention a few of the very talented entertainers who will visit and tantalize us with their songs. We've scheduled trips to the "Hill" neighborhood in St. Louis for a wonderful historical tour and lunch, breakfast out and shopping... whew! We're gonna be busy!

Our Adult Day Center is going full steam and we have openings for members available. Operating hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10AM until 4PM. The cost is nominal and includes a noon meal, supervised activities, structured socialization and transportation (within a specified vicinity). Please call any of the Garden Place residences if you are interested in learning more about this beneficial service.

In closing, this is a great opportunity to wish special birthday wishes to Garden Place General Manager Kathy Asselmeier, as well as special wishes to residents Earl Green, Edna Green, Kathy Heymeyer, Melba Linnemann and Luella Toenjes. Congratulations to each on their very special day!

That about wraps it up for this edition of the Garden Place Millstadt blog - stay tuned for upcoming news about all the goings on here throughout the summer.

Garden Place, Red Bud has been taking it a little easy this past week due to the hot weather. However this week we will begin celebrating on Thursday with "The Price is Right" at 2pm followed with a mini party in the evening consisting of Nachos, Cheese and Pepper Dip. Then on Friday afternoon there's a Wine and Cheese party at 2pm, following that we will play Bingo at 7pm. Last but not least, it's the big celebration on Saturday, the 4th with Lynn Wellman who will begin entertaining at at 6:30pm. We always look forward to her returning performances. Next week beginning at 2pm we will again be enjoying the RSVP Singers. At 1pm Thursday the Garden Place van will take another load of passengers to the Monroe County History Museum in Waterloo. This time we will be treated to a new display of military artifacts and memorabilia. Due to the large contribution of historical items the museum can no longer display them all at one time. They are going to feature a different theme every couple of months.

We want to extend our sympathy to our resident Erlean Mahan upon the death of her dear friend Melvin E. Valleroy who passed away on June 11, 2009. Mel always brought a smile to everyone's face when he attended one of our social functions.

I apologize for the large gap in the Blossom City news. We were occupied with starting up a new weekly article for the North County News.

Our manager, Marilyn Raban, has the fish aquarium sparkling and restocked with some unusual fish and snails for the resident's visual entertainment. In fact just today Irene Bathon's great granddaughter, Jessie, was heard exclaiming "Grandma, I want to go down and see the fish!".

The Garden Place van was filled with hungry people who enjouyed some delicious Chniese food at the "Rice and Fries" Restaurant in Sparta, IL. One evening we socialized around the tables with some "Wine-n-Cheese". The next day we were entertained by Dave Sheppard, who played the electric guitar and sang many of the "Old Time" - and some pouplar tunes. The Singing Sheriff was here again with his splendid entertainment. He mixed it up with the audience plus we had a Kraoke sing and enjoyed some dancing. Of course every Sunday morning at 8:30 resident Doris Cobb presents vocal and instrumental gospel music. This past Sunday Concord Presbyterian Church, PCA of Waterloo conducted a 2pm church serice that was well attended.

In the culinary department we enjoyed "Brats from The Grill" and on another occasion, home-made ice cream - and guess what? There was none left over!

During the pst month we welcomed three new residents - Irene Bathan, Delores Roscow and Wilfred Stratmann.

Future events in the planning stage are a Father's Day potluck on Friday the 19th and then on the Fourth of July a party with special food and FIREWORKS.

Garden Place Prepares for Assisted Living Status with Two New Managers

COLUMBIA & MILLSTADT, Ill. – To help implement the new Adult Day Club programs and across-the-board Assisted Living status, Garden Place welcomes new managers, Tori Salladay and Tanya Schnarre, to two of its senior living communities.

“Both Tori and Tanya are great additions to our management staff,” said Kathy Asselmeier, RN and co-owner of Garden Place. “They bring a complementary set of skills and expertise that will enhance all three Garden Place community centers and allow us to bring added services and amenities to our residents.”

Manager at Garden Place of Millstadt since May 16, Tori boasts more than 25 years of long-term care expertise with specialties in adult-day programming, health-care administration and therapeutic recreation. Most recently, Tori spent nine years with Bethesda Health Group and worked at Missouri’s largest senior living facility, Bethesda Dilworth Community Home, which has 490 beds.

“Garden Place offers the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with the residents; they are walking, talking history books,” said Tori. “At Garden Place, it truly feels like home, not just a group of rooms and people living together in the same building.”

One of Tori’s key objectives is to help build Garden Place’s new Adult Day Club services, programs designed to keep mature adults physically and mentally active within a community of peers.

“Typically, you see older people withdraw, but Adult Day Club programs can make a huge difference in the lifestyle of mature adults by improving memory retention and increasing their happiness,” Tori said.

Tanya boosts Garden Place’s capabilities by bringing more than 10 years of health care systems management experience. A CPR instructor and former sleep lab coordinator at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill., Tanya will implement standardized admission systems and program procedures associated with Garden Place’s upgraded assisted living status. Tanya started as manager at Garden Place of Columbia on June 1.

“While I bring a range of system administration and organizational skills to Garden Place, I’m happier to have the opportunity to interact and work directly with the residents of Garden Place where my assistance is most useful in improving lives,” said Tanya.

Musings from Millstadt

Garden Place Senior Living in Millstadt is a lively place to be and getting more and more busy as the weeks go on. This month we've enjoyed the Silver Eagle Band and the RSVP Choral Group just to mention a few of the folks who have visited and entertained us. Our thanks to them for their generous time and talent which offer entertainment and socilialization opportunities for our residents.

Always a well attended and very exciting activity is Movement and Motion - an easy exercise program designed by Sue Weible and scheduled every week. It includes music and movement and rhythm and most importantly a good time. Just ask those who attend and participate.

We're in the process of planning an open house to introduce our Adult Day Club to the community and to our residents. Be on the lookout for much more information to follow.

Birthday greetings this month to Marilyn Flach and Roger Massie. Our best wishes to both for a wonderful day!

That's it for this blog moment - stay tuned for more newsworthy tidbits from Garden Place in Millstadt real soon!

BLOSSOM CITY BLOG

The Red Bud Tree blossoms are long gone and spring is in full force with the flowers blooming and trees leafed out. We finished out the last week of April with entertainment by the Barbershoppers and on Friday afternoon we celebrated with a Wine & Cheese Party. Pop singer Joe Powell entertained in dining room Monday night. Wednesday evening we gathered for the Reminiscing Hour to enjoy some refreshments and talk about "The Good Old Days" when we were much younger. Oh, some of the stories that come to surface! Thursday we loaded the van for a trip to Waterloo, IL to visit the new Monroe County History Museum for the first time to view their displays. During April, May and June they are featuring Bridal Displays, some very old. The Western Memorabilia Display of a stage coach, chuck wagon, etc. was more fascinating to the men. Friday night Charlie and the Girls were here to entertain and Monday we had The Piano Man.

We now have a small "Quilt" that's ready to be mounted on the frame and the ladies are invited to try their skills. When finished it will be used as a "lap cover".

GARDEN PLACE, RED BUD -BLOG

April 24, 2009

It has been a busy week at Garden Place in Red Bud beginning with Owen Masterson showing slides of one of his trips to Africa.

"St. John's Kids", 2nd graders from St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, livened up the residents while helping them work on crafts.

Then there was an evening of inspirational music provided by the choir of the 1st Baptist Church, Chester, IL. Many of the residents joined in the singing of familiar hymns and closed with refreshments and fellowship.

The Rabe family made one of their monthly visits and entertained us with their humor and musical talent.

News from Garden Place, Red Bud

Spring is here and yes, the RED BUD TREES are in full bloom! Last Thursday we had a "Tour of THE HILL" - the well known Italian community in St. Louis MO. We met our step-on guide Joseph R. DeGregorio at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wilson Street about 10lam. Joe took us inside the church and gave a historical talk on the history of the faith of the community and how they preserved through the years from the first immigrants. who worked the clay mines of that area and their struggles to rebuid the original church after a fire. After that we visited a gift shop across the street, then back on the van for a guided thour of some of The Hill area and viewed some of he historical homes.

Next was a stop at the famous Mama Campisi's Restaurant for lunch. After Joe introduced us to the owner, Lance W. Ervin, Sr. and his staff we settled down to a delicious lunch of 'Spidini" - complete with appetizers nd of course a sample of their famous toasted ravioli.

After lunch we walked a block down the hill to Missouri Baking Co. to drool over all the goodies -of course we bought some too. Then it was back on the van with Joe taking us around to view some homes of the famous sports people like Joe Garagiola, Sr., Yogi Berra and sports announcer Jack Buck.
